The Newtown Breakaways is pleased to advise that the Pre-season Challenge is on again for the 12 March 2023 and we invite your club to participate.
Our venue for 2023 is the Inner West home of AFLW Henson Park.
This is the fifth year the Breakaways have co-ordinated the Women’s Pre-season Challenge and with the support of AFL Sydney we again encourage your club’s engagement. With your support we look forward to celebrating the commencement of full season of community AFL in 2023 with a great kick off.
The Women’s Pre-season Challenge was developed in response to a need for clubs to secure competitive pre-season trial games, to test and promote players in a game environment that is beyond clubs internal training. Clubs are able to build the capacity of their respective organisations by providing game day training and experience to develop the skills of volunteers and club game day officials.
The Challenge is for all Women’s AFL Community Clubs whether from the City or Regions and is open to Women’s Divisions. The program uses 2 Pools and we request the highest level teams are registered as your Team 1. All Teams registered are guaranteed a minimum of 3 games.
The events is a competitive pre-season challenge but we encourage community camaraderie. Catering available but we encourage teams to bring a marquee, and a picnic, get to know each other and enjoy the day.

Where: Henson Park, Marrickville
Cost: Registration of $200 (GST does not apply) per team applies (Note: Early Bird Discount for Rego before 31 Dec – $150)
* Max of two teams per club
* Registration fees will contribute to prizes for Clubs & Players (80%)
Prizes: Over $1000 in cash prizes for Club Winners
$500 O’Neill Vouchers to the two overall finalist club. (supported by O’Neill)
Challenge Player prize(s) & awards
Games: Teams will play shortened AFLX modified games on a rectangular pitch in a pooled format and are guaranteed a minimum of three games.
Final details incl game schedule will be announced Wed 1 March
Teams: All players and officials are to be registered with their club via AFL PlayHQ for administrative and Insurance purposes
Registration Deadline: 5pm, Fri 10 February 2023
